Oil on panel - This portrait of Mischa incorporates a halo motif taken from a medieval fresco of the saints. I wanted to use the motif because there exists in many young people an age on innocence, a transition from adolescence to young adult. Most children get to enjoy this time of their lives and I wanted to portray this time for Mischa. We often imagine all sorts of things about people we don't actually know and I want the viewer to imagine the subject here as a young girl on the eve of transition from girl to young woman, for that is what she was.
